'STAR WARS' AT 40: THE WALK TO MEDAL-DOM!

Matte panting wraparound of Rebel officers and overhead throne room by Harrison Ellenshaw.

Though 200 Rebel extras was a sizeable amount of people to use in the studio shooting of the original STAR WARS at Shepperton, it still wasn't enough to live up to the filmmakers' desire for a full throne room for the film's finale celebrations. Thankfully, clever and careful rearranging of the extras in selected shots on set helped enormously, as did an additional matte painting from artist Harrison Ellenshaw (credited as 'Disney' on the storyboard- the company of whom he was taking a break from to work on this film's many matte paintings, alongside ILM and Ralph McQuarrie).

Joe Johnston storyboard.

Great publicity image angles taken at Shepperton Studios.
